2005 Milan - San Remo and 2005 Paris Nice DVD
Milan 2005
The fastest sprinter of his generation, Alessandro Petacchi, cried for joy one Saturday this March as he celebrated victory in Italy’s biggest one-day Classic, Milan-San Remo.
Fast, furious and culminating in a full-blown field sprint on San Remo's Via Roma, nothing is lacking in this year's first major cycling monument: daring attacks on both ascents and descents, gutsy team work, full-scale crashes, all capped by an enthralling finale.
But San Remo 2005 is not just a unique opportunity to witness the finest hour to date of cyclings top speedster dealing a knock-out blow to his deadliest rivals, its also an historic account of the final Primavera of living legend Mario Cipollini, the frustration of World Champion Oscar Freire, and the quest for glory of Olympic star Paolo Bettini. All in all, a king-size slice of authentic Italian cycling!
Commentary by Phil Liggett & Paul Sherwen.
Paris Nice 2005
Eight years ago, a shy young American, Bobby Julich, got off a plane in Nice to seek his fortune as a professional bike rider in France. In March 2005, Julich forged his own significant spot in cycling history when he became the first US rider ever to win Paris-Nice - a race second only in prestige in France to the Tour itself.
In a race tormented by snowfalls and near-impassable roads, Julich braved the elements and the near-fatal challenge posed by one of Spain's most promising young riders, Alejandro Valverde, to take the race closest to his heart.
From the cosmopolitan streets of Paris to the epic showdown on the Col D'Eze mountain above Nice, Paris-Nice 2005 has all the ingredients of a cycling classic. And as an intriguing eight-day tale of appalling weather, masterly race tactics and vital solidarity from his teammates, Julich's ride into the record books is one simply not to be missed.
Commentary by Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen.
